Getting started

Run a payroll in your browser with no wallet, read the live showcase, and use the three real screens with your own wallet.

There are three ways in: a sandbox that needs nothing installed, the live showcase on the home page, and the three real screens. To work from the code, see Developers.

Try it with no wallet: the sandbox

The sandbox at /demo builds a small company on Stellar testnet inside your browser and pays it through Kalypso with real zero-knowledge proofs. It needs no wallet and no sign-up, and it takes about 4 minutes on a laptop. Slower phones take longer. Type three salaries under "This month's payroll" and choose Start the sandbox. The page then works through ten steps. Every transaction they send is real, and each one opens on stellar.expert:

  1. Keys: your browser makes five throwaway testnet accounts, the employer (whose account is the treasury), the accountant and three workers.
  2. Test money: Stellar gives all five accounts free test XLM.
  3. USDC: the treasury opens a USDC trustline (so it can hold USDC), and the five accounts buy test USDC for it on the Stellar DEX: the three salaries plus 2 percent, so its public deposit is never the exact payroll total.
  4. Accountant: the accountant registers their own audit key (the key that opens the amounts) in Kalypso's auditor registry and gets an id.
  5. Treasury: the treasury registers with the confidential token under that id, with a proof built in your browser. The id's owner and key are checked on chain before it signs.
  6. Company: the payroll contract creates the company, naming its accountant.
  7. Workers: each worker registers their own audit key, registers with the token, is invited and accepts.
  8. Funding: the treasury deposits the USDC into the confidential token and merges it into its spendable balance.
  9. Run: this month's run opens for three workers. Its id is the month, for example 202610 for October 2026.
  10. Payroll: your browser proves three confidential payments and sends them through the same run engine a real company uses.

When it is done, the page says "Your payroll is on chain." and opens it with the accountant's key. Pick another key to see what each person sees:

  • Worker 1, Worker 2 or Worker 3: that worker's own payslip and their verified balance.
  • Accountant: every payment, with its amount.
  • Stranger: a fresh key nobody holds, so every payment stays sealed.

Every step is saved in your browser as it happens. Close the tab or reload, come back and choose Resume: each step reads the chain first and skips what is already there, and a transaction sent before the reload is found by its saved hash, never sent twice. If a step stops, the page names it and offers Try again. One sandbox runs per browser at a time. Start over makes this browser forget it, while its company stays on testnet. The keys are throwaway testnet keys that live only in this browser.

Read the showcase through the key lens

The home page's "Try to read the salaries" section reads Andes Studio (demo), company 0 on the payroll v0.1.1 contract, straight from Stellar testnet: 6 workers, two runs (September 2026 and October 2026), and 12 sealed payments.

  • Pick the accountant's key and drag the lens over the ledger. The amounts open in your browser with the demo accountant key we published on purpose. That key reads only this demo company.
  • Pick a stranger's key and the same payments stay sealed.
  • "Open every amount" opens the whole ledger at once.

Nothing leaves the page. Each row links to its transaction on Stellar Expert, where the same payment shows no amount.

Use the three real screens

The sandbox plays every part for you. The real screens split the same payroll between three people, each holding their own key, and an employer may keep their own books with the same wallet. Go in this order: the accountant first if someone else keeps the books, then the employer, then the workers.

  1. Accountant guide: register your key at /accountant and give the employer your accountant id and address. An employer who keeps their own books skips this step.
  2. Employer guide: set up a company at /employer, fund its treasury, invite the team and pay a month from a CSV.
  3. Worker guide: join from the invite link at /worker with Face ID or Freighter, read your payslips and cash out at the practice bank.

The accountant and the employer each need Freighter set to Test Net and some free test XLM. Each guide opens with a Before you start section, and the Get free test money card on the page gives the test money in one click. A worker who signs in with Face ID needs nothing funded.
