Employer

Set up a company, keep its books or name an accountant, add USDC, invite the team and pay a month from a spreadsheet at /employer.

What you'll do

  1. Install Freighter and switch it to Test Net.
  2. Connect, and get free test money.
  3. Keep your own books, or add your accountant.
  4. Create the company and add USDC.
  5. Invite your team and pay them.

Your wallet is the company's bank account: Kalypso pays salaries and every network fee from it.

Before you start

  1. Install Freighter, Stellar's wallet for your browser, from freighter.app.
  2. Click the Freighter icon in your browser's toolbar. At the top of Freighter, click the network name (it says Main Net) and choose Test Net.
  3. Come back to /employer and choose Connect Freighter.

Get free test money

After you connect, the Get free test money card gives you 100 test XLM and 100 test USDC from Kalypso's faucet, one click each. Get the XLM first: it also opens your account. Before the first USDC, Freighter asks you once to let your account hold USDC. Test money has no value. Freighter's own Fund button gives free test XLM too.

Keep your own books, or add your accountant

Your accountant's key is the one that opens every amount the company pays, for tax and year-end. Under Your accountant, pick one of two cards:

  • I'll keep my own books, chosen to start with. This same wallet becomes the company's accountant. Choose Make my accountant key, sign twice in Freighter, then approve one more transaction. The page says "Your accountant key is number" and the number. Later you open your books on the Accountant page with this same wallet.
  • Someone else keeps the books. Your accountant goes first: they open the Accountant page, register their key, and send you their accountant id (the number their registration gave them) and their address. The accountant guide shows where they find both. Type the Accountant id and the Accountant address, then choose Check. A Confirmation code of 16 characters in four groups appears. Ask your accountant to read the code on their own screen, and tick The code matches only if every character matches. A different code means someone else's key sits under that id.

No accountant and no wallet yet? The sandbox plays every part for you.

Create the company

  1. Type the Name shown on payslips. Anyone can read it.
  2. Choose Create the company. Freighter asks you to sign twice, then to approve two transactions. The dashboard opens with the company's id at the top. If you keep your own books, it also says "You keep your own books. Open them on the Accountant page."

Add USDC

  1. In Treasury, under Add funds, type an Amount (USDC) and choose Add to treasury. Freighter asks you to approve each step. The balance then shows, opened in your browser with your key. The amount you add is public, so it shows roughly what payroll costs.

No USDC yet? Use the Get free test money card at the top of the page.

Invite your team

  1. In Team, paste the Worker addresses, one per line, up to 50, and choose Invite. Each address is its own transaction, and each row ends invited, already invited, already joined, refused or not sent.
  2. The Invite link box sits under Team, below the list. Send every worker that link. A worker who signs up with Face ID gets a new address on their screen: invite it, and they join from the same link. Only workers who have joined can be paid.

Pay them

  1. In Run payroll, pick the Month and the Year.
  2. Drop the CSV on the box, or choose Paste instead. Each line holds an address, an amount and an optional name, up to 500 lines plus one header row. Amounts in the file always use a dot as the decimal separator and no thousands separator (1250.50, never 1,250.50), whatever language the page is in. Problems are listed by line, and the preview shows every amount and the total.
  3. Choose Approve and pay. Each row ends paid, already paid or failed, and "Run closed" appears once all are paid.

On another browser

Your list of companies lives in this browser. On a new one, type the id into Open a company by id and choose Open. The treasury then asks you to choose Rebuild from chain, also kept under Treasury tools. Kalypso rebuilds the balance from the treasury's history and shows what this device expected beside it. If they differ, the treasury moved in a way this browser did not record: find out why before paying.

When something goes wrong

The messages you are most likely to meet:

  • "This wallet's account does not exist on testnet yet." Get free test XLM with the Get free test money card, or with Freighter's Fund button.
  • "This accountant id belongs to a different address from the one entered." Check both with your accountant.
  • "This wallet is already registered with the confidential token under another accountant id, and that can never change." Use a fresh wallet.
  • "The file lists more workers than have joined the company." Wait until each one has joined.
  • "This device's treasury records do not match the chain." Choose Rebuild from chain in the note, check the result, then pay again.
  • A run that stops halfway: choose Approve and pay again with the same file. It picks up from the chain's paid flags, and nobody is paid twice.

What you see, and what you do not

You see the treasury's sealed balance and the amounts in your own file, never a worker's balance. Your accountant's key opens every amount you pay and the treasury's balance after each payment, and it cannot move money. When you keep your own books, that key is yours. Strangers see that your treasury paid each worker and when, never how much. Kalypso never holds your keys.
